Real health care reform might have had a chance if he'd sold the need for it to the public, really fired them up about it. Then set his starting point or requirements at the beginning, sold these to the people, and then kept pressure on congress, directly and indirectly through even more calls to the people. Choose a path and lead us down it. Instead, he calls for reform but allows congress to negotiate everything, with him acting as a mediator between the parties more behind the scenes than out in front. The end result is that we end up with a congress-lobby'd-up mess that's not going to help a whole lot.
