I think most people agree with the idea of having a picture ID to vote. Hell, you have to have one to do a lot of things these days. Most people have them anyway and though it will prevent some people from voting it is a common sense measure that is an easy sell. It seems silly to fight it.
A simple solution is to make any law that affects voting rights wait one presidential election cycle before it is implemented. So the changes the republicans are making now wouldn't go into effect until the 2016 cycle.
This gives the R's the voter restrictions they want and give the D's enough time to recover.
