Russian Corruption

On the Russia considering and amnesty for some of their locked up business leaders.

Marginal Revolution: The Stimulus that is Russian and Booman Tribune ~ Let Canada Do the Olympics:
"Russia is so corrupt that they have managed to imprison so many entrepreneurs on trumped up charges that they are now considering a partial amnesty as a stimulus program. Basically, the police will offer to put competitors out of business for a fee and then they'll arrest innocent business owners and throw them in gulags. I don't think things were all that much worse during most of the Soviet Era."
How I see it...

In the US, where the businesses own the government and government is "of the business, by the business and for the business", We lock up our people (#1 in prison population) and the business leaders battle it out in the courts and in our elections with the awards being paid in cash.

In Russia, the oligarchy basically does what it wants and there's no real government to build a fair environment so the business leaders and the people have to fend for themselves. They do this via organized crime and corruption, basically at all levels. This is where I see a Libertarian state going. A lack of good, top level government leads to pockets of power based on corruption and wealth.

Overall, neither the US or Russian governments are doing a very good job of protecting their people.

A real government of the people by the people and for the people would protect people from both business and government.
