Social Security

Raise the damn earnings cap. There's no reason earnings over $117,000 should be exempt.

The Washington Post Is a Mess: Social Security Edition | Beat the Press:
"This upward redistribution is important to Social Security for two reasons. First, it has shifted a large amount of wage income to workers earning above the cap. The share of wage income that has escaped taxation in this way rose from 10 percent in 1983 to 18 percent in recent years. Similarly, the shift from wage income to profits in the last 14 years has also deprived the system of revenue."

Propaganda Works - Khorasan

The Khorasan Group: Anatomy of a Fake Terror Threat to Justify Bombing Syria - The Intercept:
American officials have given differing accounts about just how close the group was to mounting an attack, and about what chance any plot had of success. One senior American official on Wednesday described the Khorasan plotting as “aspirational” and said that there did not yet seem to be a concrete plan in the works.

See Something Say Something

“Hoosiers Encouraged to Report Suspicious Activity - See Something Say Something’ ” from Wayne County Emergency Management Agency : Nixle:

Well, I've seen some cops that were basically being dicks harassing people as they drove down the highway. I saw a couple of local politicians have a few drinks at a restaurant then drive away. I saw a local real estate giant grab some sales commissions by working his political buddies. I saw a local politician get a drunk driving arrest in another state but never saw anything about it in the local paper. I saw a city cop get a drunk driving arrest in the same county with no repercussions.

9/11

Fear of a Caliphate » CounterPunch: Tells the Facts, Names the Names:

On 9/11, Al Qaida caused some three thousand people to die in New York, Washington and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
But the harm it did on that day was almost trivial compared to the harm America went on to do to itself.   The reaction to 9/11 changed the country for the worse – in countless ways.  The process continues to this day, some thirteen years on.

Something our leaders, media and masses tend to overlook. The dead and disabled. The mental scars. The billions of dollars wasted, spent on military equipment that could have built us a better future. The trickle down of that equipment effectively militarizing the police. The general war mentality that I believe fuels our current gun craze. The loss of civil liberties. The NSA spying on us and the world. The fanning of the flames of hatred in the US of all things not White-Middle-class-Umurica. The creation of a generation of Muslims who will "hate us for our freedoms" because we bombed the hell out of them, killed their parents, burnt their cities, destroyed their world. The list can go on but all of it, every bit, is on us. A collective freak-out that will have repercussions for generations.

Terrorism...

or,... "We have always been at war with Eastasia"

This US citizen is going to jail for helping a terrorist organization.
Justice Department indicts New York man accused of trying to aid ISIL | Al Jazeera America:
A federal grand jury indicted 30-year-old Mufid Elfgeeh of Rochester on three counts of attempting to provide material support and resources to the group, which has been designated by the United States as a foreign terrorist organization, federal prosecutors said.

Just a couple years ago, these US citizens GOT PAID to help a terrorist organization. (emphasis mine) [Article here]
The Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK), or People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran, is an Iranian dissident group that has been formally designated for the last 15 years by the US State Department as a "foreign terrorist organization". When the Bush administration sought to justify its attack on Iraq in 2003 by accusing Saddam Hussein of being a sponsor of "international terrorism", one of its prime examples was Iraq's "sheltering" of the MEK. Its inclusion on the terrorist list has meant that it is a felony to provide any "material support" to that group.
Nonetheless, a large group of prominent former US government officials from both political parties has spent the last several years receiving substantial sums of cash to give speeches to the MEK, and have then become vocal, relentless advocates for the group, specifically for removing them from the terrorist list. Last year, the Christian Science Monitor thoroughly described "these former high-ranking US officials - who represent the full political spectrum - [who] have been paid tens of thousands of dollars to speak in support of the MEK." They include Democrats Howard Dean, Ed Rendell, Wesley Clark, Bill Richardson, and Lee Hamilton, and Republicans Rudy Giuliani, Fran Townsend, Tom Ridge, Michael Mukasey, and Andrew Card. Other prominent voices outside government, such as Alan Dershowitz and Elie Wiesel, have been enlisted to the cause and are steadfast MEK advocates.
More links about the MEK supporters. [NY Times],[Washington Post],
The problem with a war on terrorism is that someone has to decide who the terrorists are and their definition depends on perspective and can change on a whim (or a few thousand dollars).

I'm sure there are kids in the middle east who believe the terrorists are the people who are dropping bombs on them.

How Politics Works

All these effing geniuses: Ezra Klein, expert-driven journalism, and the phony Washington consensus - Salon.com:
“Outsiders can say whatever they want. But people on the inside don’t listen to them. Insiders, however, get lots of access and a chance to push their ideas. People — powerful people — listen to what they have to say. But insiders also understand one unbreakable rule: They don’t criticize other insiders.”

When will we see a similar article on Texas, California, the Pacific coast states, or the Mega-cities of the eastern US?

Maybe we are in the early stages of the decline of nation states. [see FTAlphaville: Disrupting the nation state]. The corporations who rule us span the national borders and don't really need the idea of a nation. A German multinational has legal and commercial needs that are more in common with a US multinational than with the German people. A world organized more around city-states, or mega-city states might work better for our corporate overlords.

Maybe organized around a few of the brighter groups in this NASA image. Our future could have HollywoodLand around LA, TheSiliconValley, TheGreatNorthwest, RockyMountainHigh around Denver, BostonToDCInvestmentBankerville, OldPeopleville of Gulf-Coast Florida, etc.

Or, on a larger scale, around these.

Or maybe just,,,, Brights vs Darks.

Anyway, on a corporate dominated globe there aren't many reasons for our current borders.

Neocon Plans

Neocons Revive Syria ‘Regime Change’ Plan | Consortiumnews:
"That would get the neocons back on their original track of forcing “regime change” in countries seen as hostile to Israel. The first target was Iraq with Syria and Iran to follow. The goal was to deprive Israel’s close-in enemies, Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Palestine’s Hamas, of crucial support. The neocon vision got knocked off track when Bush’s Iraq War derailed and the American people balked at the idea of extending the conflict to Syria and Iran."

I'd add that when Russia interfered with the regime change plan in Syria they were hit with a US-Israel backed Ukraine revolt.
