Misinformation

Green Party Implodes in Germany

In a post about Germany, Mish throws out a little misinformation about the Yellow Vets protests in France.

Anyone recall the Yellow Vest Protests in France when French President Emmanuel Macron tried to hike the gas tax to pay for clean energy."

Mish just throws this out like it's an established fact when it's mostly BS.

Yeah, Macron did say the increase in fuel taxes was to help move France towards renewable energy but that was a claim from him that doesn't really match the facts.

His government had recently cut taxes on business and the wealthy. Taxes that could have helped pay for renewables. Then they dumped the fuel tax on the working class shifting  the tax burden from the wealthy directly to the working class.

from Wikipedia: Yellow Vest Movement

"Sparked by claims that the fuel tax was intended to finance tax cuts for big business[106] (a characterization that French President Emmanuel Macron has objected to, stating that the fuel tax was intended to discourage fossil fuel use as a way to combat climate change[107][99]) and including many people motivated by economic difficulties due to low salaries and high energy prices,[108] the yellow vests movement has called for redistributive economic policies like a wealth tax, increased pensions, a higher minimum wage, and reduced salaries for politicians.[109][110] While some commentators have claimed that the movement was a backlash to policies meant to combat climate change,[111][112] a communique released by the movement calls for a "real ecological policy", including fuel and kerosene taxes for ships and airplanes, but objects to policies like the gas tax that hit the poor and working class most heavily.[113][114]"

Macron is very pro-business-elite. Again from Wikipedia: Macron

Macron is in favour of tax cuts. During the 2017 presidential election, Macron proposed cutting the corporate tax rate from 33.3% to 25%. Macron also wants to remove investment income from the wealth tax so that it is solely a tax on high-value property.[314] Macron also wants to exempt 18 million households from local residence tax, branding the tax as "unfair" during his 2017 presidential campaign.[315][316][317]

Macron is against raising taxes on the highest earners. When asked about François Hollande's proposal to raise income tax on the upper class to 75%, Macron compared the policy to the Cuban taxation system.[318] Macron supports stopping tax avoidance.[278]

Protest against President Macron and his economic policies in Paris on 5 May 2018

Macron has advocated for the end of the 35-hour work week;[319][320] however, his view has changed over time and he now seeks reforms that aim to preserve the 35-hour work week while increasing France's competitiveness.[321] He has said that he wants to return flexibility to companies without ending the 35 work week.[322] This would include companies renegotiating work hours and overtime payments with employees.

Macron has supported cutting the amount of civil servants by 120,000.[323] Macron also supports spending cuts, saying he would cut 60 billion euros in public spending over a span of five years.[324]

Mish is just getting a little propaganda jab in where he can.
