Thoughts on the Michael Sussmann Verdict
Basically it was a weak case that normally wouldn't have been filed but Durham needed to tell a story.
Why? There are two competing Trump Russia stories.
- The anti-Trumpers story is there were connections between the Trump campaign and Russia.
- The Cults story is the collusion of others, Hillary, the left, and the media, to make it look like there was a Trump-Russia connection when there really wasn't.
Mueller got several convictions and there were other reviews that show story #1 above has some basis in fact.
Durham was trying to do the same to show story 2 was valid. He lost a weak case but probably got enough of his story out there that the right-wing propaganda machine can convince the Cult of a vast left-wing conspiracy.
So everyone wins but truth and the US loses.
Note there was some odd communication between the Trump server and Alfa Bank
