The US and Israel

A headline/article/opinion you will never see in a major US news source.

From Israel's Haaretz:

Analysis | When Will the U.S. Get Tired of Helping Israel With UN Vetoes?

A small part but read it all.

Fifty-three times since 1972 the United States has cast a veto in the UN Security Council against anti-Israel resolutions or condemnations of Israel. This is the diplomatic shield with which Washington has covered its ally for decades.

If you’re wondering, the U.S. president under whom the Americans cast the most vetoes was Barack Obama, 21. It was also Obama who in December 2016, nearing his departure from the White House, instructed the U.S. delegation to abstain on a resolution condemning the settlements.

What really stands out isn't Obama’s variance from the norm, but all those other times when the resolution was entirely consistent, sometimes verbatim, with stated U.S. policy – and still the Americans slapped a veto.
