One thing about the coup attempt that I heard about before the Jan 6 that seems to have been dropped in all of the legal discussions is the real reason for the fake electors.
Before the coup I read somewhere that one of the Trump tactics would be to create enough chaos with rigged election claims to give the appearance that neither candidate got a true majority of electors so that the election outcome would have go to congress where the Republicans would have an easy chance to get 50% of the states for Trump.
I know I read at least one news article about this prior to the coup?
That's what I think the line "' ... let us and the Republicans in congress take care of it" in one of the coup emails is about.
This Rueters article from 2023 mentions it ...
That would have left Biden short of the needed 270-vote majority, giving Republicans in Congress a chance to declare Trump the victor.
but I sure haven't seen it spread around as much as it should be.
If true, I don't see how Republican members of congress wouldn't have been involved.
