Israel has launched a massive assault on the West Bank. Why and why now?
My guess is Netanyahu is doing all he can while the US is in the middle of an important election. He knows no US politician dare say a word against Israel in an election year. Once the election is over he'll face more pressure.
In short, he's doing it because he can.
