Trump - Tariffs

Lots of tariff talk today.

Thoughts on the Trump Tariffs  - A non-hysterical look from the Conversable Economist.

Tariffs by Chatbot: Trump’s Trade Policy as AI-Generated Farce

I see a back-office discussion at the White House Wednesday morning.

- "He's really going to go through with it? We don't have anything planned?"
- "Yes! You better think up something quick!"
- "I know, lets have one of the computer types run it through one of those new AI things."
About that formula. --> How to read the White House's tariff formula

Trade Wars are bad.

This is why you can't have nice things in a trade war

A third global recession in 20 years looms

The comment section of The Heisenberg Report is always good.

Republicans weigh using the power of Congress to rein in Trump on tariffs

Senate passes measure to revoke new Canada tariffs as four Republicans break with Trump

I personal view is that this round of tariff BS is going to be typical Trump.

  1. Big announcement to make him look and feel powerful.
  2. Waffling for a few days. The tariff start dates are April 5th and 9th.
  3. A big, quiet, reduction, removal or pull-back of some kind.
  4. A claim of victory by Trump and his minions. "They caved!!" "Look how much stocks went up today !!!"
  5. On to something else.
