Netanyahu at the UN #2

What the Israeli news reports....

Crude oil futures jumped to $91.85 per barrel as Iran nuclear program rhetoric ratchets up]

What the US media reports

[Link 1]

A positive report on the U.S. job market, signs that Spain can meet its deficit-cutting targets and hope the central bank of China will act soon to help that country’s economy contributed to oil’s biggest gain in nearly two months.

Risk appetite improved yesterday on the Spanish budget," analysts at Credit Agricole CIB in Hong Kong said in a market commentary. "With the Spanish budget paving the way for an official bailout request ... renewed concern about the Eurozone crisis has eased."

After three straight days of declines, oil posted gains in Asia on Thursday, helped by expectations the People's Bank of China will soon take more steps to stimulate the world's No. 2 economy. Spain later announced severe budget cuts intended to convince the world that it can meet deficit-reduction targets.

Oil prices also gained support from speculation that Israel was moving closer to military action against Iran's nuclear facilities, after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the United Nations that Iran would have enough enriched uranium by mid-2013 to build a nuclear bomb.

Higher oil prices,... the hidden we-support-Israel tax on the US consumer....

Adelson

This [Political Irony › Bribery by Any Other Name:] is absolutely NOT True.

Adelson is buying Romney because he want full US support of Israel and he doesn't think Obama is doing enough.

Find out for yourself,.. do a google search on Sheldon Adelson. Read several links to get a good picture of this guy. You'll see Adelson is an Israeli-Firster who cares more about the future of Israel than that of the US.

The China, Casino, corruption issues are just a cover.

Adelson: Return on Investment!

Political Irony › Return on Investment!:

Note to all liberal bloggers......

Adelson is not giving money to Romney because he wants a tax break, or to stop the Feds from investigating his casino's activities, or to buy influence for China.

He is buying influence for Israel. That's it. He wants complete US support of Israel. That's the only reason.

Paul Ryan: Defense Cuts vote

A national presidential election puts the candidates under a lot more pressure and a lot larger microscope than a congressional election. Paul Ryan's made a lot of silly mistakes so far and this is the first time he's been at this level, so my question is,.... are these just rookie mistakes or is he just not capable and in over his head.

Israeli attack on Christians

Better hope those US evangelicals don't hears about this.

Catholic Church condemns 'price-tag' attack on monastery, urges Israel to change 'culture of contempt' Israel News | Haaretz Daily Newspaper:

"The Christian community awoke this morning… to discover with horror that once again it is the target of forces of hatred within Israeli society," the missive said, adding "what happened in Latrun is only another in a long series of attacks against Christians and their places of worship."

Further on, the statement asked: "What is going on in Israeli society today that permits Christians to be scapegoat and targeted by these acts of violence?," questioning why the unknown assialtants chose to " vent" their anger over the dismantling of West Bank outposts "against Christians and Christian places of worship?"

" The latest poll on the matter (see chart 1) suggests that Pakistanis see America as more of a threat to their country than India or the Pakistani Taliban."
Our support of corrupt regimes at the expense of the people along with occasionally sending in a drone to kill people, often innocent people, probably has a lot to do with this.

If we'd quit meddling in the affairs of others they might not hate us quite so much.

Rmoney Campaign

Booman Tribune ~ A Progressive Community:
"I share Markos's confusion about Mitt Romney's advertising strategy. By giving up in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, he appears to be resigned to a strategy than calls for winning every swing state. It's only early September and Romney has settled on a strategy that cannot conceivably deliver more than 291 Electoral Votes."
Does this mean the Super-PACs are giving up in these states? I doubt it. Maybe Romney's campaign thinks the PACs are the best investment in these states.

Windows 7 Updates won't install

I had a windows 7, 64 bit, Toshiba Tecra laptop that had 8 updates that would fail to install. Every time it started, it downloaded these updates, then when you shut it down it would install them. On re-start they would be there again. every time. same 8 updates.

I tried a lot of things, here’s what eventually fixed it.

1. Booted the machine. After it settled down it said it had 8 updates to install. The same 8 I had told it to install about 20 times before but had always failed.

2. I did everything I could from this link (starting with method #4): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2509997

  • did not restart the machine after each step

  • Note. I started with method #4 because I had already tried them all from method 1 several times and just wanted to clean the old update crap out this time.
  • Running method #2 alone fixed another laptop that had the same problem but did not fix this one.
3. Then I found a link that said the fix was to download and install the update package 2647753 separately. so,.... I installed this one separately.
4. When I restarted, after it settled down it said there were 7 updates to install instead of 8!!. I let it do the install of the 7.

5. When it restarted and settled down again there were no updates to install.

  • NOTE: I’m not sure step 2 here was needed so you might save some time and start at step 3 on your first try.

Update:

If I had one with this problem now I would try. (in this order)
  1. Try Method #2 from this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2509997. It fixed another laptop the first try.
  2. Try Step 3 above: install 2647753 manually from the download link above.
  3. Try the whole process outlined above.
Damn Windows updates anyway....

Group Think

[CONVERSABLE ECONOMIST: Are Groups More Rational than Individuals?]:

Much remains to be done in comparing actions of groups and individuals in a wider variety of contexts. But these results intrigue, because they seem to point toward an economic theory of when group decision-making might be preferable to that of individuals, and vice versa. For example, when looking at a potentially complex problem, where the appropriate decision isn't clear, getting a group of people with diverse backgrounds and information can be quite helpful in leading to a more rational decision. But groups can also become large enough that they don't work well in gathering input from individuals, and become unable to move ahead with decisions.

Groups can also fall into a feedback loop like, group-think that produces bubbles like the beanie-babies, the Tulip, Dotcom, and real estate bubbles. I think the current "government is the problem" mania is a group think bubble.

Two Party system

Booman Tribune ~ A Progressive Community:

Maybe there are some people who are disappointed in the president, but no one likes Mitt Romney. And I mean no one. But it's not all about Mitt Romney. The Republican Party has spent the last twelve years demonizing Muslims. It's been bashing gays with gusto since at least 2004. It's been blasting away at Latinos ever since President Bush got the crazy notion of doing immigration reform. It's actively doing everything it can to suppress the black vote. It insults Europe at every opportunity. There is one Jewish Republican in all of Congress. The GOP has been waging an all-out assault on women's reproductive rights and has opposed equal pay for equal work with religious fervor. Who the fuck is left who might might want to vote for these assholes.

Yeah, but with a two party system this is what we get. If the people think things suck then their only choice is to vote for the other guy.
