It's not hard to see this happening to the Democrats when they are thrown out of power. The far left revolts and blames the losses on the too comfortable, too centered, too aligned with wall street and business, Democrat party bosses. Dragging the party to the left because the centrists policies didn't win just as the Tea-Party pulled the the Republicans to the right. In the end leaving the Democrats a mirror image of the current republican crew.
We really need to scrap the two-party system. It leaves voters no choice but to swap one set of bums for the other every four or eight years as this cartoon explains.
