Some proof that even top economists get in on the misinformation game.
Tyler Cowen at Marginal Revolution has a link to a Washington Free Beacon post about states considering race, per the FDA document in the previous post, to distribute scarce COVID19 therapeutics.
Tyler titles his post to bash Democrats.
I've looked through the documents at the links provided and believe that Mr. Cowen didn't read them and just accepted the FreeBeacon article on faith or he looked through them and decided to post the racial misinformation anyway.
I don't see anything that would backup this statement about Minnesota.
"..prioritizes black 18-year-olds over white 64-year-olds—even though the latter are at much higher risk of severe disease."
The guideline just adds Black, Hispanic and Native American to the list of high risk factors and leaves it up to the medical professionals to look at the specifics of each case.
The CDC lists these stats by race and non-white are at higher risk of severe COVID
but again, the documents don't say doctors have to prioritize a black 18-year-old over white 64-year-old, only that being black as a high risk category.
It's up to the medical professionals to look at the specifics of each case.
Minnesota Document from the FreeBeacon link
".. it is always the case that health care providers “should consider the benefit-risk for an individual patient.
It is permissible for patients to be prioritized for allocation of mAbs based on race/ethnicity and/or disability status, if warranted given the guidance about determining priority above."
and
This on Utah is accurate but misleading.
"In Utah, “Latinx ethnicity” counts for more points than “congestive heart failure” in a patient’s “COVID-19 risk score”—the state’s framework for allocating monoclonal antibodies"
Yes, Latinx ethnicity does count for one more point than congestive heart failure but there are many other factors considered and being only Latinx without any other issues would not put you in front of a person with congestive heart failure with issues. Here is the section from the Utah document.
What really pisses me off here is that a dumb-ass that didn't get vaccinated might get priority over someone who was.
On NY this is misleading
"..racial minorities are automatically eligible for scarce COVID-19 therapeutics, regardless of age or underlying conditions."
Yes, they are eligible because being Black, Hispanic and Native American is a high risk factor, just like age or underlying conditions (see CDC above). They don't get prioritized ahead of anyone.
The NY document from the links in FreeBeacon article. Link to the prioritization Document
I rate the The Free Beacon article as a propaganda piece in line with the Fox News article in my last post and Mr. Cowen, a well respected economist, posted and linked to it, adding a democrat bashing headline that helped spread misinformation.
