Fox News and the GOP

A good near-rant here on the currently rocky marriage between Fox News and the Republican party.

Dangerous Minds | The nightmare (free market) scenario the GOP faces: THEY’RE A VERY BAD INVESTMENT:

This.......
so herein lies the FAR BIGGER problem for the Republican party: Its very base, the braying Tea party dumbasses who they have so assiduously courted and pandered to, has made the Republican Party itself look like a BAD INVESTMENT. They can’t win lumbered with the imbecilic hordes of Fox News viewers, but they sure cannot win, either. What to do?

....seems obvious today and I agree. The GOP needs Fox but is boxed in by them. Think about how the Romney/Ryan ticket would have done without The Propaganda Network? Can you say Obama/Biden landslide. Fox kept them in this race. But,.. Fox does scare the sane voter away. They are the main reason I'm no longer a GOP voter.

But,..... in 2014, when the Democrat base stays home and all those Fox News viewers vote because they're pissed that Obama is still trying to steal "their America", the media hacks will be singing a different tune. The GOP will be back!!! They'll be endless stories about why the GOP won this time and how the elections prove Americans are tired of the liberal/socialist path, is a center right nation, and want to return to a more conservative path.. blah blah blah...and,....it'll all be meaningless drivel because in 2016 there will be huge turnout and the Democrats will return to power and once again the death of the GOP will be imminent. Then in 2018,....

Our elections have become a two-sided, media-hyped sports event where in the end, a corporate-backed politician wins almost every time and the people, along with American democracy are the real losers.

There are only two parties allowed but they are really only two wings of the same party of the corporate backed elite. They know how to market themselves (Americans do know sales and marketing), demonize their opponents, gerrymander the county, and marginalize the other small parties to score enough votes to keep all our elections close to a 50-50 split.

The Media does it's part to hype the election between those two competitors, like the Super Bowl or NCAA basketball final, reaping huge profits along the way. It's in their interest to keep the elections close. If one party is pulling into a lead we'll see a few stories designed to trim the lead and  keep it close. Policies and direction don't really matter. The real outcome hinges on turnout and dirty tricks. Facts and the truth don't matter. Propaganda and money is more important than ever.

The system is broken. Broken in that it doesn't work for the people. It works pretty well for the corporate elite as their members (the two parties) shuffle from well paid government positions to well paid lobbyist positions. They are doing quite well and will continue as long as they can keep their real opposition, the people, divided.

I'm reminded of this cartoon which pretty much says it all. Though I think the banner should read "Corporate Elite". They are not all bankers.

So, yeah, the GOP may tire of Fox news or more likely, Fox will find another way to make its profit but in the end the corporate elite will find another way to split the people and remain in control.
