Mexico Captures Top Drug Trafficker

NPR was playing this story like it was a big win for Mexico and the US drug war but I'd guess there are plenty of lower-level cartel members ready to move into this newly-opened position.

The drug cartels will be around as long as there is demand and drugs are illegal. The demand isn't going away so the only answer is to decriminalize the product. Legalization of the product would turn the drug cartels into legitimate businesses with their turf protected by laws rather than guns and violence.

our drug laws still suck. if the bong had been a can of Coors Light, a Jack and Coke, a bottle of Bayer aspirin or tylenol, or some other "legal" drug, they would have paid him for the picture and turned it into an ad campaign. The only difference between these drugs and pot is who makes the money and who makes the rules.

The drug laws in this country suck! How can pot be more dangerous than alcohol, oxycotin, etc. Why should it ruin a person's career. is it really worse than cheating on you taxes? sleeping around on your wife? taking a sleeping pill? i don't think so.......
