The Power of Prayer
There was a state-wide, day-of-prayer to stop the gulf oil leak on Sunday, June 20th and somewhere around then, maybe Monday the 21st I think, Sarah Palin passed the call for prayer along to her goofy followers.
Call for Day of Prayer
Palin's Call For Prayer
Then just three days later on Wednesday, June 23, an under-sea robot bumps into the cap forcing its temporary removal allowing even more oil to be dumped into the gulf.
Cap Removed
That prayer stuff really helps, eh?

U.S. Congress passes tough unilateral sanctions against Iran
From this....
U.S. Congress passes tough unilateral sanctions against Iran - Haaretz Daily Newspaper Israel News
I though this was funny...
"One provision added in final House-Senate negotiations specifies that foreign
banks interacting with the Revolutionary Guard or certain Iranian banks will be shut out of the U.S. financial system."
< i="">a few thoughts..
Since the US Financial system nearly wrecked the world economy over the last few years some foreign banks may prefer working with Iran.
I don't think they could ever make this stick. If the greedy financial elites think they can make a profit, i'm guessing they'll find a way to work with foreign banks even if they are working with Iran.
How do the teabagger, free-market types feel about this government restriction on business?

WSJ Propaganda
This WSJ opinion piece by Shelby Steele might be the worst propaganda piece I've ever seen in the major media. I mean,... I know it's in the "opinion" section but the WSJ editors couldn't have even read it. It's so full of crap it makes the George Will global warming "lie' articles look good.
Shelby Steele is either a full-fledged, Israeli propagandist or he's a fucking idiot. Either way, he shouldn't ever be allowed to write for any major US media again.
Here is the article: Shelby Steele - WSJ
Some Highlights (Lowlights?).....
"This, of course, is not the reality of modern Israel. Israel does not seek to oppress or occupy—and certainly not to annihilate—the Palestinians in the pursuit of some atavistic Jewish supremacy"
and
"Here again it is safer in the white West to see the Palestinians as they advertise themselves—as an "occupied" people denied sovereignty and simple human dignity by a white Western colonizer."
Israel may not seek to oppress and occupy, and it may not be for "the pursuit of some atavistic Jewish supremacy" but they do. There is no other way to describe it, Israel occupies Palestinian land and oppresses the Palestinian peoples in the West Bank and Gaza. This is the reality. Walls, troops, check-points, aircraft flying overhead, land and sea blockades. If that's not occupied i don't know what is. It has been and is happening before our eyes and this fool acts like it's not. Again, he's a liar or a fucking idiot.
"and it is bad manners to be outraged at Hamas's recent attack on a school because it educated girls"
I tried to find a link on this but couldn't find anything. Did I miss it? Did he just make it up? Is he confusing it with a similar attack in Afganistan? I don't know it may have happened, but if you put "HAMAS ATTACK on SCHOOL" into Google, the first link is to a CNN article about Israeli artillery killing 40 people in the shelling of a UN school. Attack on School
Somehow, I'll bet he's not outraged over Israel's attack on a school.
This is the most amazing paragraph to me.
"Our problem in the West is understandable. We don't want to lose more moral authority than we already have. So we choose not to see certain things that are right in front of us. For example, we ignore that the Palestinians—and for that matter much of the Middle East—are driven to militancy and war not by legitimate complaints against Israel or the West but by an internalized sense of inferiority. If the Palestinians got everything they want—a sovereign nation and even, let's say, a nuclear weapon—they would wake the next morning still hounded by a sense of inferiority."
This is amazing... "they hate us because they are inferior" ??? How smug, racist, elitist can you be. George Bush's "they hate us for our fredoms" was bad but "because they are inferior"?
No Mr. Steele, they don't hate us because they are inferior. They don't hate us for our freedoms. They hate us because over the last fifty years or so Israel has been stealing more and more of their homelands and killing more and more of their people and they've been doing this with US support, with US arms, with US politicians looking the other way, and with US media hacks like you painting a false picture of the situation to the American people.
You should be ashamed.

Israel announces let-up to Gaza siege - but only in English
Here's how the US media reported it...
FOX News: Israel loosens chokehold on Gaza after deadly flotilla raid brought pressure to end blockade.
CNN: Israel to ease rules for aid to Gaza
MSNBC: Israel says it will ease Gaza blockade.
NYT: Israel to Ease Gaza Land Blockade
Washington Post: Israel to ease blockade of Gaza Strip: Sea blockade remains over reports of further aid ships arriving soon
BUT....
The Israeli paper Haaretz says there has been no easing only an announcement in english. There have been no decisions only the announcment.
Someone's not telling the truth.
Israel announces let-up to Gaza siege - but only in English - Haaretz Daily Newspaper
".... The Prime Minister's Office issued a press release in English following the meeting, which was also sent to foreign diplomats, was substantially different than the Hebrew announcement – according to the English text, a decision was made to ease the blockade, but in the Hebrew text there was no mention of any such decision.
It is not clear whether this discrepancy was a deliberate attempt to buy time in the face of international pressure, or a clerical omission on behalf of the Prime Minister's Office." ....

The Senator from Wellpoint
It looks like old Evan's done pretty well in his time in government.
Bayh finances improve during Senate tenure - The Courier-Journal
Again, Evan is a poster-child for most of what's wrong with the US government/elites. A career politician, from a powerful political family. Probably would never had been elected without the BAYH family name. As far as I know he's never really had a real job. He's been a centrist politician that hasn't really done much in his time in washington. He got rich (richer?) because coporate america likes to get around campaign and quid-pro-quo laws by putting wives of a senators on their boards and pilling on the stock options. He doesn't really live in Indiana. His kids don't go to school in Indiana. He has very little in common with most hoosiers. He's just part of the royal elites with Indiana as his royal domain. We should crown him the Duke of Indiana and Wellpoint.

The Afghan Mineral Find?
It looks like an attempt to persuade the American public, or our partners, that it is worth prolonging the war. As noted here.
The Atlantic
Naked Capitalism
The Chinese knew about it in February.
China Mining
And even if there have been new reserves found and they are worth what the US military says, will it ultimately be good for the people of Afghanistan? It seems most of these third world countries with valuable resources rarely get the money to their people. It usually ends up in the hands of few corrupt government officials supported by the rich world powers.
Karzai
and,.. even if the 1 trillion in minerals really exist and they can get them to market and the profits aren't stolen by corruption, they may still not help the afghan people that much in the long run.
Juan Cole
Smells like propaganda.

Michelle Bachmann #2
She's also against these atheist, socialist, Marxist, etc.... liberals forcing their beliefs on god-fearing Christians but doesn't seem to have any problems with god-fearing Christians forcing their beliefs on atheist, socialist, Marxist, etc.... liberals.

Michele Bachmann On the Dole
So the crazy-eyed, anti-government, religious-crusader Michelle Bachmann is on the government dole. Her husband is taking government money for performing his "christian" counseling while she's taken almost a quarter-million in farm subsidies.

She sounds like most of the tea-baggers i've met, against government for other people but think government for themselves is OK.

Israel - Palestine
Most of the people I know don't have the slightest understanding of the Israel-Palestinian conflict. Reading this would help. It should be on the front page of every newspaper in the US.
