Mike Pence believes

“It is morally wrong to end an unborn human life by abortion,” Pence said in a news release. “It is also morally wrong to take the taxpayer dollars of millions of pro-life Americans and use them to promote abortion at home or abroad.”

But i guess he doesn't think its morally wrong to end a human life by explosives, bullets, etc. At least if that life is a brown-skinned, non-christian that lives on the other side of the world.

Marketing Freedom and Tyranny

The left needs to reclaim "Freedom" and "Tyranny"

Freedom and tyranny are two, prominent tea-bagger, right-wing mantras used to hurt the left and fire up the right-wing base. The right owns these words. Beck, Hannity and any other flag-wrapped, right-winger can scream "we want our freedom back" and the right-wingers go wild.

They own these words because they are almost always associated with government actions, keep the government out of my life, etc. "tyranny" is almost always used to denote government oppression of individual rights.

The left needs to take these words back or at least muddy-them-up a little ("luntz" them up?) by pointing them at corporations and big-business. Focus on the things big, corporate interests do that limit people’s freedoms or borders on tyranny while screaming that we want "freedom" from the oppressive, "tyrannical" power of the big business. Make people realize that government is not the only threat to our freedom.

Use the words a lot. Build talking points around them. Run advertisements showing corporations and big-business forcing people to take pay cuts, moving jobs out of the country, encroaching on private individual land rights by polluting, mountain top mining and eminent-domain, show banks trashing retirement funds while paying CEO's big bonuses, manipulating markets to run-up electric and oil prices, dropping insurance coverage, buying political favors to increase profits. Again, show that tyrannical business can be just as bad as any government.

Point out that government should play the middle man, ensuring that individual rights and freedoms are not stomped on by the tyrannical power of corporate money and power.

Done correctly, this could give the left a fighting chance when some right wing lunatic like Hannity or Beck wraps themselves in the flag and screams that "we want our freedoms back".

It made me wonder if Glenn Beck has ever watched the Glenn Beck show.

The man offers a daily drumbeat of division for a living, earning $32 million last year selling his paranoid snake oil. It’s almost impossible to keep up with Beck’s serial fearmongering, though a stroll through Media Matters will give an authoritative sampling. Just a few of his greatest hits include:

• “We are a country that is headed toward socialism, totalitarianism, beyond your wildest imagination.”

• “There is a coup going on. There is a stealing of America… done through the guise of an election.”

• “The president is a Marxist... who is setting up a class system.”

• “The government is a heroin pusher using smiley-faced fascism to grow the nanny state."

• “The health-care bill is reparations. It's the beginning of reparations."

• And of course, speaking of President Obama, “I believe this guy is a racist” with “a deep-seated hatred of white people.”

You can’t profit from fear and division all week and then denounce them one Saturday on the National Mall in Washington and hope nobody notices.

But Beck sure tried,.....

You believe in small government, right? You believe that big government should get out of people's lives, don't you? If so, then what business does the president have in telling anyone what they should build where?

You make an interesting point that having the right to do something doesn't mean you should. Would you extend the same principle to – oh, let's say – gun control as well? Or would that be an attack on freedom and a trashing of the constitution? How can you try to have it both ways?

And you believe in the free market don't you? So if you object to the owners' plans for the site, why not just outbid them? Why not let the market decide?

In short, how can you justify a position on this issue that contradicts your positions on just about everything else?

The liberal media is a myth. You might as well throw "Anti-Semitic bastard" in there too. Questioning Israel is just not allowed in The US today.

As I said above, I think Greenwald's been great lately but I wonder how long he can keep it up. Will the powers-that-be allow this kind of talk to continue? Salon's got to be getting some heat from the establishment for having him. He's been getting a few TV spots recently, will these continue or will he be blackballed? I wouldn't be suprised if he were taken down a notch by those in charge. Again, questioning Israel is just not allowed in The US today.

I going to help him as best I can. Spreading his message, Subscribing to Salon and boycotting CNN and its advertisers.

here's a good example of how Fox News distorts news to suit their purpose.

The headline and opening line cites "ACORN 'pimp'" "phone tampering" and a "democrat" yet the story had nothing to do with ACORN or pimps and was actually about a conservative republican tea-bagger pulling a phone tampering attack on a Democrat senator.

FOX knows their viewers. Most probably glance at the headline and think an "ACORN pimp" did something illegal. The article does explain what really happened but the headline will be the only thing to appear in many links and news aggregators and will help keep the tea-baggers up in arms over ACORN.

Fox is deliberatly trying to mislead. A better headline here would have been "Conservative, Republican, Tea-Bagger 'Pimp' touted 'project' before Phone Tampering charges"
