I'd agree but lots of groups qualify as cults. Here's Webster's definition: [Cult]
- formal religious veneration : worship
- a system of religious beliefs and ritual; also : its body of adherents
- a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious; also : its body of adherents
- a system for the cure of disease based on dogma set forth by its promulgator
- great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a film or book); especially : such devotion regarded as a literary or intellectual fad. the object of such devotion. a usually small group of people characterized by such devotion
Based on that I'd say the following are cults.
- All religions
- The "Tax Cuts are the Answer to Every Economic Problem" crowd.
- The "Gold Standard" group.
- The "Government is always bad" crowd.
- The Tea-Party is a cult of the Constitution (their interpretation only) or maybe the "Cult of Fox News"
- The extreme environmentalists
- The Hard-core Apple devotes's.
Cults are a lot like dictators or terrorists, if they're ours they're OK but if they're the other-side's, well, then they're evil as hell.
